The Insurance segment is involved in the life and non-life activities in France and abroad. The International Retail Banking segment is composed of operations in Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean Basin, and Overseas. The Mobility and Leasing Services segment covers the financing of sales and professional equipment by Societe Generale Equipment Finance. The Global Markets and Investor Services segment refers to the financing, advisory, and asset and wealth management. The Financing and Advisory segment focuses on servicing institutions, public sector and transaction, and payment management services. The company was founded on May 4, 1864 and is headquartered in Paris, France.

Shares of French bank Societe Generale have had a fairly volatile year, with positively received third quarter results helping them regain some ground lost over the summer. As expected, the French retail banking business finally delivered better numbers, with net interest income improving significantly. Profitability remains quite weak. With the shares still trading for 0.4x tangible book value, this is more than in the price.
