Litecoin

Litecoin was developed as an alternative peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that addressed some of Bitcoin’s inefficiencies at the time. Lee replicated Bitcoin’s code, but made several tweaks including one that would make the Litecoin network process a block 4 times faster than Bitcoin does.

Litecoin was created in 2011 by ex-Google engineer and MIT graduate Charlie Lee. 

Litecoin’s supply is capped at 84 million LTC. 

Litecoin was at the center of a hoax when it was falsely reported that the cryptocurrency reached an agreement with Walmart to be an accepted form of payment by the retailer. 

The spot litecoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) run by Canary Capital has been added to the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) website. While the listing marks progress, it does not secure approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
